Evidently, I'm a quote-aholic. But I don't quote just anyone.....no, I tend to quote most frequently from just one person. And he isn't famous in the world and many people don't know who he is...but I find myself, during discussions regarding practical Christian living, quoting the memorable little ditties that I have heard from Pastor Matt over the past 12 years. There are things he says sometimes that stick to me like glue and the Lord seems pleased to allow me to remember them (along with His Words of course!). So, I find Matt's words in my head quite often....and they seem to find their way out of my head and off my tongue to whomever I talk to, and as the discussion warrants. My lead in phrase appears to be: "Well, Matt says...." One of my favorite Matt sayings, and I use this one alot, is - "talk to God about people before you talk to people about God". (I also love the Wyatt Earp analogy! You know the one....'you said WHAT about God!!????' as rapid shots fire out of our 'Holy' guns to set other people (who obviously don't know what they are talking about when it comes to God) straight!). I don't think I realized just how often I quoted Matt though until this past Friday at Bible study. Jan and Cecilia,a very sweet, and God-loving couple from Norway, studying at the medical center in Martin, shared with me that they now have a 'buzz phrase' between them....it's WWMS? Yep, you guessed it....'what would Matt say?' Oh my gosh, I laughed so hard! Matt would probably not like to hear that he is a 'buzz phrase', but the great thing about Matt's sayings is they always and forever lead you to Jesus....if ever I were to think 'what would or did Matt do or say about this or that, the answer would always point me to Christ...oh Matt would pray to Jesus or Matt would say this about Jesus'...it may be Matt's sayings, but it is always Jesus' Words and Heart! And you know, the 'talk to God first' thing helped Cecilia in a situation where she had been wanting to talk with a friend at school about Jesus but didn't know how to, so she said she remembered 'what Matt said'....'talk to God about people before you talk to people about God' and so she talked to God....and God provided an opportunity for her to share some things with her school mate last week - and isn't that really what it's all about!
There are many great, great Pastors out there, with great, great sayings to help us remember how to live for Jesus...I thank God for all of them, but mostly, I thank God for Pastor Matt, who speaks in words I can understand and gives me tools I can use right now, so that I can walk closer to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Thank you Pastor Matt for your faithful teaching...God bless you real good!!

I heartily concur with Mary - - Matt, you are a blessing and you're also a household name in our home in Jos, Nigeria. Now I can't say that we have any Nigerians walking around saying "WWMS", but I can say that your voice echoes off the concrete floors and walls of our home through the cds that we brought and that have kindly been sent to us. What great teaching and a great reminder of home when the homesickness strikes!
