A Very Good Bible Study....

Friday night was a very good Bible Study. We are doing the Max Lucado Bible study on The Heart of Jesus and one of the discussion points was around God not wanting anyone to be lost. One of our members was not sure they could agree with that because of that member's belief in predestination. This created a rousing discussion on the subject of predestination and free will and oh my gosh was it interesting!

I have been thinking on the subject since then - (it is good to know what you believe)- I believe in predestination - it's in the Bible - God said it, I believe it. And I believe we have a free will to choose (its in the Bible too). But how those two things work together I am at a loss to fully understand. I have read some commentaries on the subject on-line and am asking God for clarity, and while I wait for illumination, I get to chew on it some more (which is actually kind of fun because you never know what will come of it - might be a whole new understanding of Christ on a totally different subject!) and always defer to His Wisdom on whether or not to enlighten me with the answer (in full or part!). I'm reminded of Matt's words: "if anyone says they have all of theology figured out - run!" so I don't imagine I will ever know all there is to know about it, but what I don't know, I'll trust God for.

We ended the Bible study praising God that we were united in faith in Jesus Christ for our salvation and in the end that's all that mattered. No one was offended and no one was unhappy. It was a wonderful manifestation of the Holy Spirit working in each of us to Love each other deeply from the heart over any supposed rights to be the 'winner' of the discussion. Amen? Amen!

What are you learning in your Bible studies?
