Merry Christmas

My first Christmas in Slovakia has been a wonderful experience! This is my apartment with my little Christmas tree and lights!

I went to the Christmas Eve service at church - the place was packed - almost standing room only! The choir was absolutely angelic!

After the service, I went to Michal and Katka's to enjoy Christmas Eve with their lovely family. The tradition is much like what we do back home - eat too much of all the wonderful traditional foods you love at Christmastime and laugh and enjoy....and, oh yes, open presents! I don't remember what Starka was laughing about, but it definitely tickled her funny bone!
This first one is Michal, Marek, Lucy and Marta (Michal and Lucy's mother)

Christmas Day was spent at Bohdan and Biba's house with their family. Again, I had amazing food and a wonderful time with new friends:

This is Martin, Bo and Biba's 1 year old son.....he is going to play the drums! Sisa is Biba's sister and my counterpart in English (she teaches grammar to the beginner students). Below is Biba with Bohdan's mother.

Well, it has been a lovely Christmas and I am incredibly blessed to have such warm and inviting new friends willing to share this special season with me. And now I look forward to the New Year! Wishing you all Vesele' Vianoce a Stastny Novy Roc! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

How lovely- thank you for sharing your Christmas there. It seems as you fit in very well. I love the furniture and the coziness of it all. I had not seen your apartment before. Is the lady with the white hair Starka? Isn't how funny even though you do not speak the same language you can communicate with each other. Awesome. She looks sweet and fun.
Linda : ) Happy New Year

Merry Christmas Mary! It sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas with your new friends. I am happy that it is working out so well for you in Slovakia.

We had a wonderful Christmas as well. I ate way too much turkey and dressing, etc. Lew came home on 12/18 and just left 12/28. It was really good to be with him but just too short a time. We are all doing well.

I am heading to Des Moines Monday 1/5/09 to help Chris Miller get a new refi center set up. I will be there every week in January, Monday-Friday. It will be nice to see my old friends there, especially Kay and Judy. I will definitely need my warm woolies there. Ha! Ha!

You take care and have a Happy New Year!
